MagicJack is a device that you connect to your computer, which allows you to make and receive local and long distance phone calls for $19.95 a year, at the time of publication. After purchasing the device, you plug it into your computer and set up an account to begin using the phone. MagicJack is not exempt from problems and you may need to carry out troubleshooting steps if you have trouble with the device. MagicJack has a customer service chat, but you can try a few of your own troubleshooting steps first.
Step 1 : Unplug MagicJack, wait a few moments and plug it back in. Try using a different USB port if your computer does not display a message that it has found new hardware. When you unplug MagicJack, you can turn off the software and allow it to re-load once you plug it back in, which may fix any problems.
Step 2 : Restart your computer. You may experience problems running MagicJack itself or an essential background service may have crashed. A simple restart frequently fixes software problems.
Step 3 : Browse to a Web page to verify that your Internet connection works. MagicJack cannot run without an active Internet connection. If you experience connectivity issues, unplug and reboot your modem and/or router. If you still experience problems, contact your Internet service provider.
Step 4 : Click “Menu” in MagicJack and place your mouse over “Advanced Users.” Click “run magicFix.” Updating the MagicJack software may correct any problems you have with the device due to outdated software.
Step 5 : Plug MagicJack into another computer if you have access to one. This will allow you to see if you have a problem with the device itself, as opposed to your computer or Internet connection.
